Habitat
Red Pandas live in bamboo forests in Nepal and northern Myanmar, as well as central China. They live in large ranges, in cool temperatures, that extends from western Nepal to northern Myanmar. The species also lives throughout mountainous areas of southwestern China (Yunnan, Sichuan and Xizang provinces) at elevations between 4,900 and 13,000 feet.
Red pandas only live in temperate forests in the foothills of the Himalayas. The southern slopes of the mountains trap the water from seasonal monsoons, supporting forests of firs, deciduous hardwoods, and rhododendrons. A bamboo understory grows in these forests and provides the bulk of the red panda’s diet. But these bamboo can only found in narrow bands throughout the red panda’s range. Red pandas are restricted to living in small fragile areas because they depend on thee bamboo plants.

Langtang National Park in Nepal is an important habitat for red pandas.
The Bronx Zoo
The Bronx zoo habitat does a decent job of recreating the red panda's natural habitat. It does provide a lot of trees and bushes for the panda to hide in. That is actually the reason why on the trip, it was harder to get a picture of it. Their fur keeps them warm in New York during the winter, but in the wild it's never as cold as it here most of the time. In a zoo, red pandas can live up to 14 years. They live about around 7-8 years in the wild. Also in the zoo, the panda's are fed bamboo, berries, and other grasses similar to what they eat in the wild.
